San Francisco Food Sources
In recent years, I have put significantly more thought, time, and energy into food and nutrition. Not only am I concerned about our family's health and well-being, but I am also concerned about how our food choices affect the greater community.

When buying produce, meat, and dairy products, I support local farmers who employ sustainable growing methods. When buying meat and dairy products, I put forth extra effort into purchasing pasture-raised animals. And instead of organic, pasteurized milk, I purchase raw milk from cows raised on pasture.

Books
• Full Moon Feast:And the Hunger for Connection by Jessica Prentice
Jessica Prentice poetically describes foods in its historical and mythological contexts as well as in factual information about our food systems. She fully supports sustainable agriculture and provides traditional food recipes.

• Animal, Vegetable, Miracle:A Year in Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver
This well know author describes her family's journey as they decide to sustain themselves solely on the products of their own farm and their immediate community. She shares this year-long experience, and her husband and elder daughter also contribute their thoughts on current farming standards and nutritious recipes, respectively.

After reading this book, you'll want to grow your own vegetable garden and can the bounty for the long, winter ahead (wherever you may live).

• Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon
N.T. contains much of the scientific explanation behind the Weston A. Price lifestyle and also includes recipes. I use this book more as a reference, when I need to remind myself of the specific reason I chose a certain food or when I need to prepare a basic food the W.A.P. way (like porridge or kefir).
